Emotional Velcro by Joren Whistlecrank

Born and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, Joren Whistlecrank grew up surrounded by industrial textiles and unspoken tension.

His obsession with velcro started at an early age when he mischievously attached velcro to his Legos and then strategically placed them around his family's living room rug. He found the resulting annoyed yelps from family members accidentally stepping on them to be strangely gratifying. Inspiration was born.

After graduating from an Art College he will not name (for liability reasons), his work quickly became in demand in Manhattan condominium lobbies. His combination of fragile fabrics and tough-as-nails velcro has touched the imagination of tens, if not dozens, of people.

"Emotional Velcro" is his first official show in a gallery which he finds both thrilling and difficult. Why difficult? Joren answers, "I ran out of velcro on Tuesday and Home Depot said they weren't getting a shipment until Thursday so that was a lot of pressure."
