Soola Driftwood

By day, Soola Driftwood is a personal shopper on the Upper East Side of NYC.

By night, she is the painter of dark skies.

"I work best in the dark. Black is the negation of color; the contrast by which all color is measured. I've experimented with other colors but I find them tedious."

Once known for only wearing black, she remarks, "Everyone said they found it dull and depressing. Frankly, I don't know what they're talking about. Clients really are tiresome."

Her current show is a stunning collection of large-scale, overpriced paintings of dark, cloudy skies in black and deeply muted colors.

To complete the effect she asked that the gallery walls be painted black. Her request was turned down by gallery owner, Jennifer Haas. "I told her enough with the black, already."
